I searched for a UK-specific email marketing comparison guide and couldn't find one. So I built it.

Every comparison site I found was built for a US audience. They showed USD prices. They recommended tools like Mailchimp and Klaviyo without mentioning that both store data in the US by default — which matters for UK businesses under UK GDPR. They ranked tools by commission rate rather than by what actually works for UK stores.

MailStack is different. Every price is in GBP, with a note explaining the currency conversion where a tool prices in USD. Every tool is assessed against UK GDPR — specifically, where the data is stored, whether a Data Processing Agreement is available, and whether EU or UK data residency is the default. Every recommendation is made with Shopify in mind, because most UK e-commerce stores run on Shopify.

How we review tools

Every tool on this site has been reviewed via a real free trial account. That means:

• Screenshots taken from an actual account — not from the tool's marketing materials
• Pricing verified directly from the tool's pricing page, not from third-party sources
• GDPR documentation reviewed — Data Processing Agreement located, data residency options verified
• Shopify integration installed and tested where possible

We do not accept payment for favourable placement. Mailchimp is reviewed critically because its limitations for UK Shopify stores are real. Dotdigital is reviewed positively because its UK data residency is genuinely unique. The commission rate an affiliate programme pays does not affect where a tool is ranked.

Mailchimp, despite being the most widely used tool on the list, has no affiliate programme — and it is reviewed more negatively than tools that do pay commissions, because that is the honest assessment.
