Kit
Kit is the best email tool for content creators, newsletter operators, bloggers, and course sellers. It is not designed for Shopify e-commerce. If Shopify is your primary sales channel, Kit is the wrong choice — use Omnisend or Klaviyo instead.

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is excellent at what it was designed for: helping content creators build and monetise an email audience. It is not designed for Shopify e-commerce, and using it for that purpose requires significant workarounds that the other tools on this list handle natively.
The free tier
Kit’s free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited email broadcasts. This is by far the most generous free tier on this list — GetResponse offers 500 contacts free, Klaviyo 250. For a content creator building an audience, Kit’s free tier can last years.
The free tier is genuinely unlimited on broadcasts — you can send to your full list as many times as you want. Automation on the free tier is limited to basic sequences (autoresponders), but for a newsletter-based business, that is often sufficient.
Why it is on this list
Kit appears on this list because UK Shopify stores often have a content or community side to their business — a blog, a newsletter, a podcast. Stores that use Shopify primarily for selling but build their audience through content sometimes find Kit’s creator-focused tools more natural than Omnisend’s e-commerce focus.
If you fit that profile — Shopify for selling, Kit for audience building — it is worth evaluating. The integration between Kit and Shopify exists but requires a third-party connector.
The GDPR limitation
US-only data storage is Kit’s main limitation for UK businesses. No EU or UK residency option exists. For stores where this matters, the alternatives are clear.
Our verdict
Kit is on this list for completeness and for the specific audience it serves well. If you are a content creator who also sells on Shopify, it is worth knowing about. If you are a Shopify DTC brand whose primary goal is email marketing automation, use Omnisend or Klaviyo. Kit’s Shopify integration is too limited to recommend for e-commerce as a primary use case.

UK GDPR Compliance
US data storage only — Kit does not offer EU or UK data residency. All subscriber data is processed in the United States. UK users must rely on standard contractual clauses (SCCs) for lawful data transfer.
Kit's Data Processing Agreement is available in account settings. US-only data storage means UK GDPR compliance requires SCC documentation. Kit is designed primarily for content creators rather than e-commerce — its GDPR tooling for managing e-commerce customer data is less comprehensive than Klaviyo or Omnisend.
